In Fuzzy Dragon Wonders, Fuzzy Dragon and friends share a dream many children hold close—they want to be superheroes. When they learn that superheroes aren’t real, they are heartbroken. But instead of giving up, they embark on an adventure to investigate what they could be. Along the way, they discover a powerful truth: superheroes are real when people choose careers that help others. Two of the paths they explore are becoming an actor and becoming a teacher—roles beautifully reflected in the real-life journey of Mark Cabus. This adventure highlights how actors and teachers help others, just as superheroes do. The story explores the ways in which actors, teachers, and many others dedicate their lives to helping those around them.

The Actor: Storytelling That Inspires and Connects
As an accomplished film, television, and theater actor, Mark Cabus has spent years bringing stories to life in ways that move, challenge, and inspire audiences. One of his most meaningful works is his one-man performance of A Christmas Carol, in which he embodies multiple characters from Charles Dickens’ classic tale. When Mark brought this production to Birmingham, Alabama, he performed at Central Alabama Theater, sharing not just a performance, but an experience rooted in empathy, imagination, and human connection. Importantly, Mark’s work shows how actors and teachers help others by inspiring empathy through powerful storytelling and performance.

In Fuzzy Dragon Wonders, when the children wonder what it might be like to be an actor, they begin to understand that acting is more than costumes and applause. Actors help people feel seen, understood, and inspired. Through storytelling, they encourage audiences to reflect, grow, and connect—superpowers in their own right. That is one way teachers and actors truly help others in their communities.
The Teacher: Pouring Into the Next Generation
What makes Mark Cabus’s story especially powerful is that he doesn’t stop helping others when the curtain closes. Each time he comes to Birmingham to perform, he volunteers his time to teach master classes for Central Alabama Theater’s Junior Advisory Board. In these classes, he pours into the younger generation, mentoring aspiring performers and helping them build confidence, discipline, and creative voice. Through teaching, Mark demonstrates how others are helped by actors and teachers through education and empowerment.

Beyond his visits to Alabama, Mark continues this mission daily as a theater and acting professor at Ball State University. In Fuzzy Dragon Wonders, when Fuzzy imagines being a teacher, children learn that teachers shape futures—guiding students, encouraging curiosity, and helping young people discover who they can become. Both actors and teachers help others, showing students and children the value of compassion and learning.
Real-Life Superheroes Among Us
Mark Cabus’s career embodies the lesson at the heart of Fuzzy Dragon Wonders: superheroes don’t wear capes. They stand on stages, step into classrooms, and choose to help others through creativity, education, and service. By living fully as both an actor and a teacher, Mark shows young readers that helping others—through art, mentorship, and learning—is the most powerful superpower of all. In fact, the impact of how actors and teachers help others proves that real-life superheroes are among us every day.
